On December 27, 2022, Jamir Barnes, a 20-year-old resident of Portsmouth, Virginia, was tragically shot and killed in the parking lot of the Sterling King Apartments on Washington Street. The incident occurred around 1 a.m., and Portsmouth Police responded to reports of gunfire at the scene. Upon arrival, officers found Barnes with fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
