John Robert Plummer III, a 37-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on November 27, 2021, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Known affectionately as JP, he was a carpenter by trade and a beloved father of four. His warm smile and infectious laugh were a source of joy to his family and friends, who remember him as a gentle giant and a protector.
On that fateful Saturday night, Plummer was at Griff's Restaurant and Sports Lounge on Portsmouth Boulevard.
At approximately 1:45 a.m., a shooting occurred at the establishment. Officers who responded to the scene discovered Plummer with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to a suspect. Anthony Arnold Schultz III, a 28-year-old man, was identified as the individual responsible for the shooting. Just two days after the incident, on November 29, 2021, Schultz turned himself in to the Portsmouth police. He is facing several serious charges, including first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The untimely death of John Robert Plummer III left his family, including his mother and sisters, utterly devastated. They are seeking justice for the senseless act of gun violence that took their loved one from them. The case against Anthony Arnold Schultz III is currently proceeding through the legal system.
