In the early hours of a Saturday, the life of 19-year-old Marquise Carruthers, a male resident of Irvington, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. Shortly after midnight on November 15, 2014, Carruthers was shot in the 900 block of Clinton Avenue in his hometown. Emergency medical services responded to the scene and transported him to University Hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Marquise Carruthers succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:18
a.m. that same morning. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the Irvington Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
In the days following the incident, authorities announced that the investigation was active and ongoing. At that time, no suspects had been identified and no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. The Essex County Sheriff's Crime Stoppers Program offered a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Marquise Carruthers' death. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force.
