On the summer evening of July 2, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the night at the intersection of 18th Avenue and 21st Street in Irvington, New Jersey. When the noise subsided, Anthony E. Young, a 37-year-old Black male from nearby Newark, was found shot. Tragically, his injuries were severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:28 p.m.
