On the summer evening of July 2, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the night at the intersection of 18th Avenue and 21st Street in Irvington, New Jersey. When the noise subsided, Anthony E. Young, a 37-year-old Black male from nearby Newark, was found shot. Tragically, his injuries were severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:28 p.m.
The Irvington Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force immediately launched a joint
investigation into the fatal shooting. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an understanding of the events that transpired that night and identify those responsible for Mr. Young's death.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. Details regarding a potential motive or any identified suspects have not been released to the public. The case remains an active and open investigation as law enforcement continues to seek answers and justice for Anthony Young.
