In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 9, 2017, a burst of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn stillness on Myrtle Avenue in Irvington, New Jersey, leaving a community shaken and a family grieving. Inside a vehicle parked on the 300 block of the street, 33-year-old Ahmad J. Carson of Newark was fatally wounded in the incident, which unfolded shortly after 1 a.m. He was a male.
When Irvington police officers responded to reports of a shooting in progress, they discovered two men inside the car, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders pronounced Carson dead at the scene at 1:44 a.m. A second man in the vehicle, a 26-year-old also from Newark, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities, citing security reasons, did not publicly release the name of the surviving victim.
