In the late evening hours of a Tuesday in October 2016, the life of 20-year-old Kevin Ortiz of Somerdale, New Jersey, was tragically cut short on the streets of Atlantic City. The young man, a male, was discovered by Atlantic City Police officers who were responding to a 9-1-1 call around 9:19 p.m. in the area of South Carolina and Baltic Avenues. Upon their arrival, they found Ortiz suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, but
Ortiz’s injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead right there on the street. The incident quickly turned into a homicide investigation, jointly handled by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department.
