In a tragic turn of events on a spring evening, Marques Mills, a 39-year-old male, was fatally shot in Neptune, NJ. On the night of May 14, 2022, shortly before 11 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at the intersection of Hillview Drive and Edgemere Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Mills inside his vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning, May 15, 2022. Mills, a graduate of Neptune High School, was a beloved figure in his community, known for his infectious smile and his dedication to fitness as a personal trainer and the owner of a clothing line.

The investigation into the homicide was a collaborative effort between the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Neptune Township Police Department. For more than two years, authorities worked to identify those responsible for the ambush-style shooting, which occurred as Mills was pulling out of the driveway of his family's home. The community was left seeking answers, and authorities urged the public to come forward with any information that could lead to an arrest in the case.

In November 2024, a significant breakthrough was announced in the case. Two men, Kedrick Chatmon, 37, of Keansburg, and Lamare R. Walker, 45, of Barnegat, were identified as the suspects. A Monmouth County grand jury indicted both men on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree conspiracy to commit murder. Chatmon also faced additional weapons offenses. The two suspects were apprehended on November 21, 2024, with Chatmon being arrested in Keansburg and Walker in Barnegat. They are both being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a detention hearing.
