In the summer of 2009, a dispute tragically cut short the life of 23-year-old Jonathan Paraison. A resident of Asbury Park, New Jersey, Paraison was born in Neptune. On the evening of June 27th, he found himself in a confrontation directly across the street from his family's home on 11th Avenue in Neptune. The disagreement, which his mother later vaguely described as stemming from 'a baby thing,' escalated to a fatal point.
During the dispute, a single gunshot ended the young man's life. Paraison was rushed to the nearby Jersey Shore University Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he passed away. The man who fired the fatal shot was 23-year-old Jaris Baker.
The investigation that followed led to Baker's arrest.
In a subsequent legal proceeding, Jaris Baker admitted to his role in the shooting. He pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter, bringing a legal conclusion to the case. For the Paraison family, however, the pain was far from over. In a cruel twist of fate, Jonathan's older brother, Frantz Paraison, would also lose his life to gun violence in a separate incident years later, compounding the family's grief.
