Maurice Kennedy 'Mike' Chenoweth, a 48-year-old man, was the owner and bartender of the Lumberjack Tavern in the small town of Big Bay, Michigan. His life came to an abrupt and violent end on the night of July 31, 1952. The events of that evening would not only shatter the quiet of the remote village but also become the basis for a famous novel and film.
