On a summer afternoon in Saginaw, Michigan, the life of Humberto D. Casas Jr., a 43-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically cut short. On June 21, 2015, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1500 block of Cumberland Street, near Holland Avenue. There, they discovered Humberto lying by the roadside, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate attention of medical responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Humberto, born on December 10, 1971, in Saginaw, was known as a skilled individual, proficient in welding, plumbing, electronics, and home repairs. Remembered for his loving, compassionate, and kindhearted nature, he was a cherished father, grandfather, son, and brother. He was a man of few words but had many friends and was deeply loved by his family. His untimely death left a void in the lives of those who knew him.
The investigation into the homicide was a collaborative effort between the Michigan State Police Saginaw Major Crimes Unit and the Saginaw Police Department. Their work led to the identification and arrest of two suspects: Travis Travon Sammons and Dominique A. Ramsey, who were both 25 years old at the time. An autopsy revealed that Humberto had been shot seven times, with one wound to the head and three to his back.
Sammons and Ramsey were subsequently charged in connection with Humberto's death. The charges brought against them included open murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felony firearms. The community closely followed the legal proceedings as they unfolded, seeking justice for a life taken too soon.
