Izaiah Zae Micah Danks, an 18-year-old male, found his life cut tragically short after a violent encounter in the spring of 2022. On the evening of April 25th, a dispute at the Birch Park Apartments in Saginaw, Michigan, escalated to gunfire, leaving the young man gravely wounded. For nearly a month, he fought for his life, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on May 24, 2022, surrounded by his family at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital. His passing marked a profound loss for his loved ones and the Bridgeport community, where he was known as a hardworking and compassionate individual, always ready to lend a hand.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to Demontrae Chris Hardman, a Black male who was on parole at the time of the incident. Hardman was arrested and charged with the murder of Izaiah Danks. As the case proceeded to trial, Hardman maintained that his actions were taken in self-defense, a claim that would be scrutinized by a jury of his peers. The prosecution presented its case, seeking to hold Hardman accountable for the death of the teenager.
Following the trial, the jury rendered its verdict, finding Demontrae Hardman guilty of second-degree murder, along with a host of other charges. These additional convictions included being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, and a felony firearm charge, underscoring his status as a habitual offender.
