In the early morning hours of May 17, 2024, 80-year-old John Strachan, a male resident of Bay City, Michigan, was driving his Chevy City Express van northbound on Interstate 75 in Saginaw County. As he neared the Holland Road exit around 4:45 AM, he was struck by gunfire in what law enforcement officials believe was a targeted attack. Despite his injuries, Strachan was able to guide his vehicle to a stop along the freeway. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
