In the early morning hours of May 17, 2024, 80-year-old John Strachan, a male resident of Bay City, Michigan, was driving his Chevy City Express van northbound on Interstate 75 in Saginaw County. As he neared the Holland Road exit around 4:45 AM, he was struck by gunfire in what law enforcement officials believe was a targeted attack. Despite his injuries, Strachan was able to guide his vehicle to a stop along the freeway. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
The violent and unexpected nature of Strachan's death sent ripples of shock and grief through the community. His funeral was held on Monday, May 20, 2024, where family and friends gathered to mourn their sudden and profound loss.
