In the early morning hours of May 28, 2016, the life of 34-year-old Jeffrey Lloyd Reynolds, a Black male from Saginaw, Michigan, was tragically cut short. Reynolds was the victim of a fatal shooting in Buena Vista Township, a community in the Saginaw metropolitan area. The incident, which also resulted in injuries to another individual, set in motion a complex investigation that would lead to the arrests of three men.
The investigation into Reynolds's death led authorities to identify three suspects: Don-Tae Ramone-Andrew Brewer, Christopher Reynolds-Doyle, and Demarco-Dreyan Larkin. Brewer and Reynolds-Doyle were subsequently charged with open murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and other felony firearm offenses. Larkin faced a charge of open murder. The ensuing legal proceedings would unfold over the course of several months, involving preliminary examinations and jury trials to determine the culpability of each of the accused in the death of Jeffrey Reynolds.

The case against the third man, Demarco-Dreyan Larkin, concluded differently. After a four-day trial, a jury acquitted Larkin of the open murder charge, finding him not guilty.
