Francis Xavier McKenna, age 72, was last seen on October 12, 2011, in Citra, Florida. He had left his home in Taylorsville, North Carolina, on October 10, en route to his winter residence in Sarasota, Florida. During his journey, McKenna checked into the Orange Blossom Motel in Citra for one night. When he checked out the following morning, he appeared confused and disoriented. This was the last confirmed sighting of him.
Two days later, on October 14, McKenna’s white 1998 Ford Econoline E150 van was discovered abandoned on the northbound side of Interstate 75, at the County Road 484 exit in Marion County. Although he was supposed to be heading south to Sarasota, his van was found heading in the opposite direction. The van was operational, and McKenna’s belongings were left inside. Despite this, there were no signs of him, and his credit cards have remained unused since his disappearance.
McKenna's brother reported him missing nearly a month later, on November 9, 2011. Both Florida and North Carolina law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the case, but McKenna's disappearance remains unsolved.
