In the spring of 2014, the life of 23-year-old Darquis Vontrell Drake was tragically cut short in his lifelong home of Saginaw, Michigan. Known affectionately as 'Dar Dar,' he was fatally shot on the evening of April 30, 2014. At the time of his death, Drake was a beloved son, grandson, and brother who was known for his infectious smile and his ability to bring laughter to those around him. He had attended Buena Vista High School and was employed by SVRC Industries. A member of Mt.
Zion Missionary Baptist Church, he found joy in playing basketball, dancing, and spending time with his friends and family.
The shooting occurred in a neighborhood that had been grappling with a rise in violence, and his death deeply affected the community. In the wake of this tragedy, his family and community members have persistently sought justice and an end to the violence that has impacted their city.
