In the summer of 2022, the life of 43-year-old Monte Edwon Wilson was tragically cut short in Saginaw, Michigan. On the evening of June 19th, Wilson was in the 3000 block of Bundy Street when he was shot. He was rushed to Ascension St. Mary's Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries the following day, on June 20, 2022. Wilson, a Black male, was a beloved son, husband, and father, known for his sharp sense of style and his dedication to his children's lives. His sudden and violent death marked the third homicide in Saginaw in June of that year, leaving his family and the community in mourning.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the investigation struggled to gain traction. The Michigan State Police Saginaw Major Case Unit, handling the case, initially reported having few leads and no suspects in custody. They appealed to the public for any information that could help bring justice for Monte Wilson. For over a year, the case remained a painful, unanswered question for his loved ones.
A significant breakthrough finally came in October 2023. Deperryon D. King, a 22-year-old man, was arrested and charged with the murder of Monte Edwon Wilson. After a trial in the Saginaw County Circuit Court, King was found guilty. His conviction brought a measure of closure to the long and difficult period of uncertainty for Wilson's family, ensuring that the man responsible for his death was held accountable for his actions.
