On a summer evening in Detroit, Michigan, a young man’s life was tragically cut short over a pair of sunglasses and flip-flops. Devin Guidry, a 21-year-old male, was walking with a relative near Outer Drive and Van Dyke on July 6, 2015, when the fatal encounter occurred. Around 9:00 p.m., a car approached, and several individuals got out. One of them, described as wearing a hoodie with a white tie-dye shirt, shot Guidry once in the head, killing him instantly.
The assailants then robbed him of his Cartier sunglasses and flip-flops.
Guidry's family was left reeling from the senseless violence, struggling to comprehend why their son, who his mother described as intelligent and good with his hands, was killed for such trivial items. They remembered him as the baby of the family and pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to the capture of those responsible. The Detroit Police Department echoed these pleas, releasing surveillance footage and 911 calls to the public in an effort to identify the suspects. Investigators also released a sketch of one of the suspects, described as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a dark complexion, a mustache, and a goatee.
The investigation eventually led to a breakthrough with the arrest of Anthony DeAndre Walker. At the time of his arraignment in early 2018, the 23-year-old was charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and felony firearm. A judge denied him bond, and he was scheduled for a probable cause conference and a preliminary exam. Despite this significant development in the case, authorities continued to seek additional suspects who were believed to have been involved in the robbery and murder of Devin Guidry.
