Carl Cooper, a 17-year-old African American, was one of the victims in the tragic Algiers Motel incident that occurred during the Detroit 12th Street Riot on the night of July 25-26, 1967. The incident involved a raid by a task force composed of the Detroit Police Department, Michigan State Police, and the Michigan Army National Guard.
