On a street in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, the life of a 31-year-old Black woman, Tayne Perkins, was cut short on the evening of September 25, 2021. Known to some as Tanye, she was fatally wounded in a double shooting that also left a man injured. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Westview Street and Blue Hill Avenue, where police responded to reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Perkins and a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both were transported to a local hospital for medical attention. While the man was listed in stable condition, Perkins succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the days following the shooting, authorities publicly identified Perkins as the deceased victim. At the time, the Boston Police Department stated that the investigation was active and ongoing. They appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Perkins' death.
