In the early morning hours of July 5, 2024, the joyful atmosphere of the gathering was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
Amid the chaos, Jordan was fatally wounded.
He had just graduated with a degree in packaging and was looking forward to starting his career. Described as a lovable and wonderful person, he wasn't a frequent attendee of such parties but went that night to celebrate with his fraternity brothers. Around 12:30 a.m., Jordan called his younger brother, Chandler, to ask for a ride home. As Chandler was arriving nearby, he was on the phone with Jordan when he heard the gunshots ring out before the line went silent. It was a friend and fraternity brother who found Jordan's body after the shooting stopped.
The investigation into Jordan's death has been challenging for law enforcement due to a lack of cooperation from potential witnesses. Detroit police believe multiple firearms were discharged at the party and have suggested the fatal shot may have been the result of 'celebratory gunfire.' Despite the large number of people present at the block party, tips to the police have been scarce.
In the months following the shooting, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified. Frustrated by the slow progress, Jordan's family has made public pleas for anyone with information to come forward. Authorities, in partnership with CrimeStoppers and the ATF, have increased the reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution to $25,000, hoping to break the silence and bring a measure of justice to a grieving family and community. His father, Andre Thornhill, has expressed his daily anguish and urged those who know something to clear their conscience and speak up.
