On the evening of Thursday, February 25, 1982, Detroit Police Officer Frank X. Siemion, a 39-year-old male with a decade of service, was responding to a burglary in progress at a liquor store on East Lafayette Street. In a courageous and ultimately fatal decision, he was the first officer to enter the building, gaining access through a window by climbing security scaffolding. Inside, the inherent dangers of the situation quickly materialized.
