Dede Ricks, a 33-year-old Black transgender woman, was tragically shot and killed in Detroit, Michigan, on August 27, 2022. Her death is part of a disturbing trend of violence against transgender individuals, particularly Black transgender women. Dede was found unresponsive in her home on Manistique Street around 3:40 a.m. with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
