In the early morning hours of September 9, 2015, the life of Keon Sterlan Rooks, a 34-year-old Black/African American male, was tragically cut short on the 11600 block of Stout in Detroit, Michigan. At approximately 2:35 a.m., Rooks was shot multiple times with a handgun. Detroit medics arrived at the scene, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led police to a suspect, 24-year-old Robert Gardner of Detroit.
Gardner was subsequently arrested and faced several serious charges in connection with Rooks' death. These charges included open murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm.
While an arrest was made, the specific motive behind the fatal shooting of Keon Sterlan Rooks was not made public. The case proceeded through the legal system with Gardner expected to be arraigned in the 36th District Court to answer for the charges brought against him.
