On a tragic Sunday afternoon in Detroit, Michigan, on August 21, 2016, the life of a young mother was cut short in a selfless act of heroism. Sharonda Thomas-Turner, a 24-year-old Black female, was sitting in her vehicle with her infant son in the backseat when she was ambushed. More than twenty shots were fired into her car, yet her motherly instincts took over as she managed to get her son out of the line of fire, saving his life while losing her own.
