A sense of homecoming turned to tragedy for Courtney Willis, a 26-year-old man who had returned to the Muskegon area for the holidays from his residence in Kentucky. The evening of February 1, 2017, brought a violent end to his visit. In Muskegon Heights, within the 3200 block of Eighth Street, Willis was discovered by a family member in the breezeway of a home around 9 p.m. He had been shot nine times.
