In the winter of 2018, the life of 29-year-old Melvin Lamar Totten, a Black male, was abruptly and violently cut short in his hometown of Muskegon, Michigan. On the night of February 12th, shortly before 11 p.m., police were dispatched to the Trinity Village apartments on Valley Street following reports of a shooting. Inside one of the apartments, they found Melvin unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
