In the winter of 2022, a tragic and violent event unfolded in Eastpointe, Michigan, forever altering the lives of two families. On January 27th, 37-year-old Dorian Mitchell, a male, and his girlfriend, Christie Davis, were outside their apartment complex when they were gunned down. The shooting left Mitchell dead and Davis critically injured. She later succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation quickly centered on a neighbor, 62-year-old Dennis Evans.
The motive for the shooting appeared to stem from a dispute between the neighbors. Following the incident, Evans fled the state in an attempt to evade capture. His flight from justice prompted a multi-state manhunt. Authorities eventually tracked him to Texas, where he was apprehended.
Upon his arrest and extradition back to Michigan, Dennis Evans faced a litany of serious charges. During a search of his apartment, investigators discovered a mixture of fentanyl and heroin. His criminal history revealed a disturbing past, with two prior convictions for second-degree murder. In February 2024, a jury found Evans guilty on two counts of first-degree premeditated murder for the deaths of Dorian Mitchell and Christie Davis. He was also convicted on multiple other charges, including felony firearm offenses, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and a controlled substance charge. The convictions for first-degree murder carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
