On a tumultuous Christmas Eve in 1906, the small town of Wahalak, Mississippi, was shattered by violence that would claim the life of Constable John O'Brien. The 54-year-old male lawman was shot and killed as he attempted to arrest a man involved in an earlier violent altercation on a passenger train. The events leading to the fatal encounter began with a fight between two men on the Ohio and Mobile Passenger Train traveling between Scooba and Wahalak.
