John O'Brien, a 54-year-old constable from Wahalak, Mississippi, was tragically killed on December 24, 1906. The incident occurred when O'Brien attempted to arrest a man who had stabbed the conductor aboard the Ohio and Mobile Passenger Train. This altercation led to one of the most severe race riots in Mississippi's history, resulting in significant destruction and loss of life in the small town of Wahalak, which had a population of about 225 people.
