Christopher Columbus Knight, aged 49, from Grand Bay, Alabama, died on June 18, 2014, in Escatawpa, Mississippi. Knight was involved in a fatal shootout with a co-worker, Lanis L. Chapman, aged 47, from Citronelle. The incident occurred on Roberts Road in the Escatawpa community. According to Jackson County Sheriff Charles Britt, the altercation between Knight and Chapman began at their workplace and escalated into a street shootout.
