On a Sunday afternoon in Brookhaven, Mississippi, 24-year-old Darion Reese was fatally shot in a grassy area at the intersection of North Monticello Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The shooting, which occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. on October 13, 2013, was the culmination of an ongoing altercation. Reese was struck by a single gunshot to the chest and was pronounced dead at King's Daughters Medical Center less than an hour later.
