On a Sunday afternoon in June 2019, the body of 22-year-old Vincent J. 'NuNu' Garry was discovered in Brookhaven, Mississippi. A passerby spotted the young man's remains just off the road in the 930 block of Crooked Lane shortly before 1 p.m. and alerted the authorities. The discovery launched a homicide investigation into the death of the young father of four.
Earlier that day, Garry's mother had reported him missing, telling police that it was uncharacteristic of her son, with whom she
shared a close bond, not to be in contact. Her concern was tragically validated when the body was identified as her only child. As officers were responding to the scene on Crooked Lane, Garry's abandoned car was located a few blocks away on Ozark Lane, adding another layer to the unfolding mystery.
The Lincoln County Deputy Coroner revealed that Vincent Garry had suffered blunt force trauma to his head. However, the exact cause of his death was pending an autopsy at the state crime lab in Jackson. Investigators at the scene could not immediately determine if a firearm or another type of weapon had been used. Police Chief Kenneth Collins stated that it was possible Garry had been killed elsewhere and his body left on Crooked Lane. In the days following the discovery, law enforcement urged the public to come forward with any information that could lead to an arrest in the case. At the time, no suspects had been publicly identified, and no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide.
