On the evening of Sunday, May 25, 2025, the Lincoln County Coroner was called to a residence at 933 Ozark Lane at approximately
6:23 p.m., where Mohon was found. It remains unclear whether he was shot at that location or transported there after being wounded elsewhere. Another individual was also shot on Ozark Lane and taken to a local hospital by a private vehicle, and was expected to recover. The violence that claimed Mohon's life was part of a larger storm of shootings that swept through Brookhaven that night and into the early hours of the next day.
The night was marked by a relentless series of shootings across the city. Shortly after Mohon was found, at 6:41 p.m., a home and a vehicle were struck by gunfire on Crooked Lane. This was followed by a car being shot on Mildred Street at 7:12 p.m., and another vehicle targeted on East Court Street at 7:53 p.m. The sound of gunfire continued to echo through the city as the night wore on, with shots fired on Rogers Circle and a home hit on Industrial Park Road. In the early morning hours, a woman was shot in the arm on Brant Trail, and another house was shot on Marr Street.
In the wake of the violent weekend, the Brookhaven Police Department announced that the numerous shootings were likely connected and the result of ongoing gang activity. Despite the turmoil and the tragic loss of a young life, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or announced any arrests in direct connection with the death of Kayden Mohon.
