On a quiet Sunday in Brookhaven, Mississippi, a domestic disturbance escalated into a tragic double murder-suicide, leaving three people dead. The events unfolded on September 2, 2018, when 19-year-old Taylor Nicole Kelly and her 61-year-old father, J.T. Miller, were fatally shot by Taylor's husband. The 29-year-old male shooter then turned the gun on himself.
That afternoon, J.T. Miller had driven to his daughter's home on Wood Street. He was there to pick her up.
As he approached the front door to let his daughter know he had arrived, he was met with gunfire. Miller was shot and collapsed on the front porch, his wife witnessing the horrific event from their truck parked in front of the residence. She immediately fled up the street, screaming for someone to call the police.
When officers from the Brookhaven Police Department arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m., they were met with a grim sight. Inside the doorway of the home, they discovered the body of Taylor Kelly. A few feet away lay the body of her husband, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and a handgun still in his possession. The investigation concluded that he was the suspect in the shooting deaths of his wife and father-in-law. Because the perpetrator took his own life at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the murders.
