A domestic dispute in Brookhaven, Mississippi, tragically ended in a double murder and suicide, claiming the life of 61-year-old J.T. Miller of Raleigh. The violent encounter unfolded when Miller arrived at his daughter's residence on Wood Street to pick her up. As he approached the front door to let his daughter, 19-year-old Taylor Nicole Kelly, know he was there, he was fatally shot.
Miller collapsed on the front porch from his injuries.
His wife, who had accompanied him, was waiting in their truck at the front of the house. Upon hearing the gunshots, she fled up the street to safety. The initial shot that struck Miller was the start of a grim sequence of events.
Inside the home, police later discovered the body of Taylor Nicole Kelly near the doorway. It is believed she was still alive when her father arrived. Her husband, 29-year-old Byron Keith Kelly, was found nearby with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Investigators concluded that Byron Kelly shot his wife and father-in-law before taking his own life. A handgun was found with him. The incident was classified as a domestic disturbance that escalated to a deadly shooting. Because the suspect took his own life, there were no arrests or subsequent trial.
