In the summer of 2015, a late-night shooting in Brookhaven, Mississippi, left a man dead and a community searching for answers. On the night of July 23rd, Glen Mack, a male resident of the city, was shot in the Cloverdale area. The Brookhaven Police Department received a call about the shooting at 11:42 p.m. and dispatched officers to the scene on North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
Upon their arrival, first responders found Mack with a gunshot wound to his upper leg.
The bullet had passed through one leg and entered the other. He was initially transported to King's Daughters Medical Center for treatment before being airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson due to the severity of his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Glen Mack was pronounced dead at 5 a.m. the following morning.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Brookhaven Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led to a suspect. The day after the fatal shooting, authorities arrested Pierre Thomas in connection with Mack's death. Along with the murder charge, Thomas also faced charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.
However, the legal proceedings took an unexpected turn. In April of the following year, a grand jury reviewed the evidence against Pierre Thomas and chose not to indict him on the murder charge. As a result, the murder charge against him was dropped. While he was no longer a suspect in the death of Glen Mack, Thomas remained incarcerated on the unrelated drug charges. The case could potentially be brought before a grand jury again if new evidence were to emerge.
