In the summer of 2024, a life was tragically cut short in Brookhaven, Mississippi. William Des'Mond Young, a 23-year-old male, was killed on the evening of Saturday, June 22nd. The fatal incident unfolded around 8:05 p.m. at an apartment complex located at 209 Pennington Street, near the intersection with Furr Avenue. Young sustained multiple gunshot wounds following an altercation.
In the days following the shooting, the Brookhaven Police Department identified a juvenile as the suspect.
The individual was named as 15-year-old Christian Collins. Authorities worked with the teenager's family to have him turn himself in, but their efforts were initially unsuccessful. This led the police to state that they would involve the U.S. Marshals if cooperation was not forthcoming.
The search for the suspect extended beyond state lines. On Friday, July 26, 2024, Christian Collins was apprehended by agents with the U.S. Marshal's Service in San Marcos, Texas. He was found in his mother's apartment. Following his capture, Collins was charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of William Young. His mother, LaRhonda Collins, also faced legal consequences and was set to be charged with obstruction of justice.
