In the summer of 2019, a burst of violence outside an Oklahoma City motel claimed the life of Gerald Lawan Jones, a 48-year-old Black man. The evening of July 29th unfolded at the Relax Inn, located at 2211 NE 32nd Street, where Jones was shot around 9:05 p.m. The sound of gunfire shattered the night, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Jones was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but the severity of his injuries proved to be insurmountable, and he was pronounced dead.
