A transaction for a gold chain turned into a fatal robbery in broad daylight, ending the life of Andres “Andy” Navarrete Guerrero, a 25-year-old Marine veteran and expectant father. Remembered as a kindhearted, loving, and energetic person, Andy was known by his family and friends as someone who brought joy to those around him and could always be counted on for a helping hand.
He took great pride in having served his country in the Marines and was looking forward to welcoming his first child with his wife.
The tragedy unfolded on the afternoon of Monday, October 26, 2026, in the parking lot of a First Citizens Bank in a typically busy area of North Oklahoma City. Just after 3:00 p.m., in the 12000 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue, Andy met with an individual for what was supposed to be a $2,000 sale of a gold chain. Instead, the arranged meeting turned into an attempted robbery. During the confrontation, Andy was shot multiple times. Despite his severe injuries, he managed to get out of his vehicle and walk into the bank lobby for help before collapsing.
Oklahoma City Police Department officers were dispatched to the bank at 3:08 p.m. following reports of the shooting. When they arrived, they found Andy inside the bank suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting stemmed from the robbery attempt in the parking lot. The suspect had fled before police arrived, leaving a grim scene that was still visible the following day.
The investigation led detectives across the city on a search for the person responsible for this violent act, which marked the 48th homicide in Oklahoma City for 2026. Later that evening, authorities located their suspect at a residence near Southeast 44th Street and Sooner Road. The individual, identified as 18-year-old Keyalynn Gray, was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand.
Gray was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injury. After being treated and interviewed by detectives, he was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center shortly after 1:00 a.m. on October 27. He was booked on complaints of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery for his alleged role in the death of Andy Guerrero. As of late October 2026, Gray was being held without bond as the case proceeds through the Oklahoma County court system.
In the wake of this sudden and heartbreaking loss, Andy’s family was left to navigate an unimaginable period of grief during what should have been a joyous time of preparation for their new baby. A GoFundMe campaign was organized by a family member to help support Andy’s wife with funeral costs and expenses for their child's arrival. The fundraiser described the profound void left by his absence and appealed for prayers and support for the grieving family.
