In the late hours of a Thursday night in Oklahoma City, a violent encounter cut short the life of 40-year-old Dwan Scott, a Caucasian male. On October 24, 2019, police were called to a residence in the 1900 block of NW 12th Street shortly before midnight, following multiple reports of gunshots. Inside the home, a grim scene awaited the first responders.
Scott, along with three other individuals, had been shot.
Tragically, another man, 33-year-old Ashton Wilson, was pronounced dead at the scene. Dwan Scott was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Two other victims were also transported to the hospital with life-threatening wounds. The shooting had turned a quiet residential street into the focus of a major homicide investigation.
As detectives began to piece together the events of that night, information from a surviving witness provided a crucial lead. According to the witness's account, a woman and two men had come to the house with the intention of purchasing drugs. When they were refused, the situation escalated dramatically. The two male suspects allegedly drew firearms and opened fire on the occupants of the home. In the ensuing chaos, one of the assailants reportedly stole money from one of the victims before all three fled the scene.
The investigation led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Skyler Wilson, 28, was identified by a survivor and subsequently charged with two counts of murder. Another suspect, 28-year-old Mikel Carter, was also taken into custody and faced a slew of charges, including murder, assault, battery, and robbery. At the time of these arrests, a third suspect involved in the deadly incident remained unidentified.
