In the early morning hours of a July weekend, a life was tragically cut short in southwest Oklahoma City. Jacob Crawford, a 17-year-old White male, was with friends during the holiday weekend when violence erupted. Just after 1:15 a.m. on July 6, 2025, police responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex near Southwest 15th Street.
Upon arrival, officers found Jacob in a parking area in the 1600 block of Heyman Street, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to OU Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. Investigators believe the shooting followed some kind of altercation, though the exact circumstances remained unclear in the immediate aftermath.
In the days that followed, the Oklahoma City Police Department opened a homicide investigation and appealed to the public for any information. However, no immediate arrests were made, and no suspects were publicly identified. The case was described as ongoing as detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the teenager's death.
