On December 27, 2014, Jason Beals, a 39-year-old man, was found dead from a gunshot wound in a garage apartment located behind a home in southwest Oklahoma City. Police responded to reports of gunfire around 4 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Beals had been fatally shot. This marked the 61st homicide in Oklahoma City that year.
