Norman 'Gabe' Pugh, a 49-year-old male and disabled Army veteran, was tragically killed on April 25, 2021, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Pugh, who had served tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan, found a sense of community among fellow veterans at his apartment complex near NW 18th and Youngs Boulevard. On the day of the incident, he was returning home when he was senselessly shot in the back in the breezeway of the complex.
The events leading up to Pugh's death reportedly began when a man,
identified as 41-year-old Reuben Ingram, was seen erratically beating on apartment doors and driving around the complex in search of a woman. Security footage from the apartment complex captured Pugh arriving home just moments before the fatal shooting. The attack appeared to be a random act of violence, as Pugh's family stated that he had never mentioned Ingram, suggesting the two were strangers.
Following the shooting, the Oklahoma City police launched an investigation that quickly led to the arrest of Reuben Ingram. He was taken into custody on a first-degree murder complaint and was subsequently held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center without bond. Ingram was reported to have a history of violent crimes. While an arrest was made, bringing some measure of relief to Pugh's grieving family, the legal process was still in its early stages, with formal charges from the Oklahoma County district attorney pending at the time of the last available updates.
