In the early morning hours of August 1, 2016, the life of 29-year-old Terry Payne, a male from Louisville, Kentucky, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter at his home. Payne resided at The Landing Apartments on Schneble Circle in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. It was there that the events leading to his death unfolded, leaving a community in shock and a family devastated.
Payne, an iron worker and an expecting father, was with his pregnant girlfriend inside their apartment when the intrusion occurred.
According to accounts from witnesses, two men broke into Payne's apartment, which led to a shootout between Payne and the intruders. The confrontation resulted in Payne sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency services were called to the scene around 5:45 a.m., and Payne was rushed to University Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead at 8 a.m.
