In the quiet, affluent suburb of Anchorage, Kentucky, a tragic and violent end came to the short life of 18-year-old Destiny Moneyhun on March 28, 2017. The female teenager from Smiths Grove was caught in a whirlwind of crime alongside her 25-year-old companion, Bradley Sheets, a spree that spanned multiple counties and left a trail of theft and murder.
Their desperate run from the law concluded in a wooded area where their lives ended in a hail of gunfire, a final act ruled a murder-suicide by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
The chain of events leading to that fatal evening began with a crime spree across Central Kentucky. Moneyhun and Sheets were suspects in the theft of a truck, a debit card, and a firearm from an acquaintance in Glasgow. Their path of criminality took a darker turn when they were linked to the stabbing death of 74-year-old Lewis Hoskinson in his Hardin County home. The couple then fled in Hoskinson's stolen white Nissan, a vehicle that would ultimately lead police to them.
Anchorage police were responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle when they discovered the stolen Nissan on a dead-end gravel road. As officers approached, they found Moneyhun and Sheets nearby. The situation escalated rapidly when Sheets pointed a revolver at the officers, prompting them to open fire. Wounded, Sheets managed to retrieve his weapon, fatally shooting Moneyhun before taking his own life. An autopsy later confirmed that while both had been struck by police bullets, the fatal shots were from Sheets's gun. The Louisville Metro Police Department took over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting and the preceding events that led to the grim conclusion in the quiet suburb.
