In the summer of 2018, a tragedy unfolded in a quiet Louisville, Kentucky neighborhood that ended the life of 32-year-old Noor Ghazawi. On July 8th, at their home near the intersection of Lambert Avenue and Buechel Bank Road, a violent domestic dispute reached a fatal conclusion. Noor was shot and killed by her husband, Bashar Ghazawi, in a brutal act that a witness saw unfold.
The couple's youngest child, who was five years old at the time, reportedly witnessed the horrific event.
Immediately after shooting his wife, Bashar turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide attempt. While Noor was pronounced dead at the scene, Bashar survived his self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. His troubles with the law were far from over. While still hospitalized, he attempted to escape police custody but was unsuccessful. His history of criminal activity, including prior drug-related offenses, painted a grim picture of the events that transpired.
Upon his release from the hospital on July 23, 2018, Bashar Ghazawi was formally charged with the murder of his wife. The charges included felony murder, domestic violence murder, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. The case moved through the legal system, and on October 3, 2022, a jury found him guilty of murdering Noor. However, the saga took another bizarre turn just hours after his conviction. Bashar was found unresponsive in his jail cell from a suspected drug overdose. He was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, bringing a somber end to a devastating chapter of domestic violence.
