In the quiet Southland Park neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, the life of 52-year-old Kim Anh Thi Nguyen, a woman of Vietnamese descent, came to a tragic and violent end. On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, she was found shot to death inside her home on Kenjoy Drive, leaving a community in shock and her family devastated.
The grim discovery unfolded after a deceptive attempt to conceal the crime. Her husband, 41-year-old Tho Luong, initially filed a missing person's report for his wife.
However, the investigation soon turned towards him. Authorities discovered that Luong had a history of domestic violence and had previously made threats against his wife's life. This troubling background painted a grim picture of the circumstances leading to her death.
Following the filing of the false report, Luong fled the state. His attempt to evade justice was short-lived. Law enforcement tracked him to a motel in Ellicott City, Maryland. In a coordinated effort between the Louisville Metro Police Department and the Maryland State Apprehension Team, Tho Luong was arrested without incident on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. He was found in possession of a 2011 black BMW at the time of his arrest.
After his apprehension, Luong was held at the Howard County Detention Center in Maryland as he awaited extradition back to Kentucky to face charges for the murder of his wife. Initially, a judge set his bond at $250,000. However, prosecutors pushed for a higher amount, citing that Luong had made threats to harm himself and others. Convinced of the potential danger, the judge raised his bond to one million dollars. A public defender was appointed to represent him as the legal proceedings began.
