In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 11, 2020, the life of 31-year-old Noelle Wilson was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. At approximately 2:54 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District were dispatched to the 2300 block of Green Street, Southeast, after the sound of gunshots echoed through the neighborhood. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Wilson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. D.C.
Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and determined that she showed no signs of life. Her body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Noelle Wilson was remembered by friends and family as a beautiful person with a vibrant spirit who had a passion for dancing and teaching others. Her death left her loved ones in shock and deep grief. In the wake of the tragedy, her family and friends gathered for a vigil to honor her memory and to make a plea for an end to the gun violence that had claimed her life and affected so many others in the city. The loss was particularly painful for her mother, who decorated a 'Justice' tree at her grave during the holidays as a tribute to her daughter's sparkling personality.
For nearly two years, the case of Noelle Wilson's death remained under investigation. Then, on Thursday, June 9, 2022, a significant development occurred. Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, homicide detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department arrested 29-year-old Kavon Jackson of Northwest, D.C. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder while armed-felony murder in connection with Noelle Wilson's shooting.
The arrest brought a glimmer of hope for justice to Noelle's grieving family and community. However, the legal proceedings took an unexpected turn. On January 19, 2023, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia made the decision to drop the charges against Kavon Jackson. This development meant that, for now, the case of who is responsible for the death of Noelle Wilson remains unresolved. The Metropolitan Police Department had previously offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her homicide.
