In the early evening of February 25, 2019, a tragedy unfolded in Southwest, Washington, D.C., that cut short the life of 35-year-old Georgette Goodman. A Black female resident of the community, she was in the 4700 block of 1st Street, Southwest, when the sound of gunfire shattered the relative quiet of the neighborhood at approximately 6:23 pm. When officers from the Seventh District arrived at the scene, they found Goodman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
