On the evening of Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Southeast Washington, D.C., a burst of gunfire shattered the night, leading to a tragic loss of life. Responding to reports of gunshots at approximately 8:33 p.m., officers from the Seventh District arrived at the 3300 block of 14th Place, Southeast. There, they discovered 22-year-old Jayla Vaden, a resident of Southeast, D.C., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
She was found unconscious and not breathing.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, but after assessing her condition, they found no signs of life and she was pronounced dead at the location of the shooting. The area, situated north of Barry Farm and south of the Anacostia neighborhood, became the center of a homicide investigation as detectives began to piece together the events that led to the young woman's death.
In the immediate aftermath, details surrounding a possible motive for the shooting remained elusive to investigators.
