In the fall of 2021, a neighborhood dispute in Washington, D.C. tragically cut short the life of 47-year-old Dametrics Evans. On the evening of Monday, October 25, 2021, Evans, a mother of three, found herself in an altercation that would ultimately prove fatal. According to her daughter, who witnessed the harrowing event, Evans attempted to walk away from the escalating conflict.
However, she was pursued and shot in the hallway of an apartment building in the 4900 block of G Street, Southeast.
The sound of gunfire prompted a response from the Sixth District police, who arrived at the scene at approximately 8:31 p.m. to find a grim scenario. Evans was discovered in the hallway with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, she showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene. The violence of that evening also left another individual, an adult male, with life-threatening injuries. He was found inside an apartment and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and on the following day, Tuesday, October 26, 2021, an arrest was made in connection with the homicide. The Metropolitan Police Department announced that 21-year-old Shaun Tyree Brown of Southeast, D.C., had been taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder while Armed and Assault With Intent to Kill, bringing a swift, albeit somber, development to a case that had suddenly and violently shattered the peace of a Washington, D.C. neighborhood.
